NANOFPT
Nano-reinforced 3D Printed Thermoplastic Interlayer for Tougher Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) Composites – Increased production capacity.
Context:
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) multilayer composites replace more and more metals in structural applications, such as aeronautics, space, marine, automotive, energy, sports and others. When used in structural applications, CFRPs suffer from delamination, the intensive crack propagation within the interlayer region, the region between two successive laminas of technical fabric within the resin matrix system.
The challenge:
- Achieve adequate dispersion of nanoparticles within the PEEK filament.
- Achieve good quality of PEEK filament.
- Amendment of current AM machine with a small-scale custom-made roll-to-roll printing table, which will help in increasing production capacity of 3D printed interlayers.
